The Players Championship 2025 will be held at TPC Sawgrass, THE Players Stadium Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, USA. TPC Sawgrass is owned by the PGA TOUR and hosted The Players Championship for the first time in 1982. The course is famous for its 17th hole, a par-3 with an island green, one of the toughest and most exciting holes in golf. The Players Championship Golf Tournament Format
The tournament follows the stroke play format, meaning every golfer's total strokes are counted. The event lasts for four days (Thursday to Sunday), with 18 holes played each day, making a total of 72 holes. After the first two rounds (Thursday & Friday), a cut line is applied. Only the top 65 players and ties advance to the weekend rounds (Saturday & Sunday), while the rest are eliminated. If a golfer’s score is above the cut line, they are out of the tournament. If two or more players are tied at the top after the final round on Sunday, a sudden-death playoff takes place. This playoff usually happens on holes 17 and 18 at TPC Sawgrass, and the first player to win a hole is crowned champion.
TPC Sawgrass is a par 72 course, meaning the standard number of strokes per round is 72. Finishing a hole with fewer strokes than par (birdie or eagle) improves a player’s score. Taking more strokes than par worsens the score. The player must drop the ball in the designated area and take a penalty stroke. The golfer must replay the shot with an additional 1-stroke penalty. If the ball lands in an unplayable spot, the player can drop the ball but must add one penalty stroke to their score. The fast greens at TPC Sawgrass make putting difficult, while narrow fairways demand precise shots, or the ball may end up in the water.
