What is the Format of the 2025 Golf Mexico Open?

Paragraph heading with Golf carts side by side in bg

The tournament follows a Stroke play format over 4 days playing across 72 holes (18 per day). The player with a low cumulative score after 4 rounds wins. After 2 rounds (36 holes) a cut will be made. Each player must play for 40 seconds to keep the pace of the play. Only the top 65 and ties will make the cut and play the weekend rounds (Rounds 3 and 4). In case of a tie after the final round, a sudden death playoff will ensue. Playoffs will start at a predetermined hole (usually hole 18) and continue until a winner is determined.

If a ball goes out of bounds, the player gets a stroke penalty and has to hit again from where they started. Playing too leads to different penalties. Players can say their ball is unplayable, drop it somewhere else, and take a one-stroke penalty. Some hazards, like water and sand traps, have special drop areas. Hole 7 is a tough par-3 with a water hazard so golfers need to hit to avoid penalties. Hole 17 is a par-4 that needs careful planning and skill. Hole 18, a long par-5, is the most thrilling final hole. The key to winning the championship will be how players handle the tougher signature holes 17 and 18.
